The Life and Liberty Project gives Veterans and First Responders the opportunity to learn the art of horsemanship. Participants will build a solid foundation on the ground and work up to riding. No previous horse experienced required.

Horsemanship Level 1

All Participants start in our level one horsemanship class. This class gives participants the foundation they need in basic horse behavior, handling, and safety. All classes in this course are covered on the ground. When completed, participants will have a good foundation to continue to build their horsemanship skills on.

Horsemanship Level 2

Saddle Up! graduates of the horsemanship level 1 course will move onto our level 2. In this course participants will begin to build their under saddle skills

Delta

Delta is our resident old man. He has been in our personal family for over 17 years. He is 23 years young and an essential member of the intro to horses team

Rip

Rip is the youngest member of the team. He is currently in training for a course that is being developed for wounded veterans. More to come on Rip and the new program! you will see Rip from time to time in the Horsemanship 1 Course

Duke

"Duke" is our first project pony. He came to us with signs of having a rough past. He is working on trusting humans again and we are looking forward to a brighter future for him.

Meet the team

Horsemanship Instructor

Sarah Lambert -ESMHL

Sarah started riding at the age of 4 years old and never looked back. She bought her first horse in 2006 "Delta" ,a big Haflinger gelding, whom she still has to this day. Sarah has been a life long student of the horse with her passion being equine behavior and science. She graduated from SUNY Cobleskill in 2014 with a B.S. in large animal science. Professionally, Sarah has worked in many facets of both the equine and dairy cattle industries (her other passion). She is certified through the Professional Association of Therapeutic Horsemanship as an ESMHL. Sarah is mentoring with Mathew Doyle under Josh Nichols relational horsemanship program.

Tori Rand
