The Gospel Within the Horse

Updated: Oct 1

Job 12:7-10

"But ask the animals, and they will teach you

or the birds and they will tell you

or speak to the earth, and it will teach you

or let the fish inform you

which of all of these does not know that the hand of the Lord has done this?

In his hand is the life of every creature and the breath of all mankind"

Horses pointing us to the ultimate horseman ....

Building the character needed to be able to communicate with horses on a compassionate and successful level felt like a worthy cause that I was drawn to. The more I was drawn to the inner workings of horses the more comforting and oddly familiar it felt. This sent me down a path of discovery that I'm still on to this day. Still not ever "mastering" (if you can even call it that) horsemanship but rather understanding the bigger picture. And even more importantly seeing how God really is everywhere, if only we are looking.

The character horses look for in a leader are the characteristics of God himself and why wouldn't they be... He designed horses so perfectly to point us back to him. Its a beautiful circle. He is the ultimate and only true horseman as he is the only true God. Being a student of the horse and a seeker of God has become one in the same for me. This does not mean a harmonious easy road but I know where to keep looking when I fall.

Lesson From the saddle:

"Always look where you want to go", "keep your eyes up" All sayings you have heard on more than one occasion as you were learning to ride. Spend anytime on a horses back and you will quickly learn that where your intentions are set both internally and externally have a large affect on how they respond to you...But the Bible said it first. Next time you are struggling in the saddle refocus your intentions and remember Psalms 121:1-2

Psalm: 121:1-2

I lift my eyes up to the mountains- where does my help come from?

My help comes from the Lord, maker of heaven and earth
